Final Panther Blog

Lakeside has had a phenomenal year-both academically and athletically. Our Power Period initiative has given remediation or "help" to hundreds of students. Likewise, our students needing enrichment received a variety of interesting topics throughout the year that they otherwise would not have received. It was a lot of work on our staff's part, but it was definitely worthwhile. We are already looking forward to improving this process for next year to make it even more effective. On the playing fields, our Panthers have been just as successful. In the final standings of the Georgia Athletic Directors Cup Competition, Lakeside finished as the top ranked AAAA public school athletic program in the state! That is really a great accomplishment to our coaches and athletes!

In closing, I want to thank everyone associated with Lakeside for allowing me the privilege of being the Principal for the past 8 years. I am moving on to a different position in our system and it is a bittersweet parting for me. We have always been known for our academics-and now for our athletics, too...but I'll miss the people and relationships that have made all this possible over the years-the teachers, the kids, the parents-everyone that works together to make Lakeside the special place that it is. I look forward to remaining a Panther Parent for the next several years as both of my sons matriculate through Lakeside. There is no other school I'd want my own kids to attend-and I am very grateful for the opportunity to remain involved with this community. Our new Principal, Dr. Steve Rhodes, is very excited about coming to Lakeside and I simply ask that you extend the same Panther Pride to him so that he can take our school to new heights. With your support, the best is yet to come!

Ten Days and Counting!

Wow! Time is really flying by now. Our Spring Sports have had tremendously successful seasons. Our boys tennis team made it to the Final Four and our girls tennis team made to the Quarterfinals. Our boys and girls soccer teams both advanced to the state quarterfinals. Our baseball team just won the first round of state and is hosting the second round this Wednesday vs. Lee County. Our girls track team just finished 4th in the state behind strong performances from Anna Bowles (state champion) and Katie Townsend. Way to go, Panthers!

We are in our last week of standardized testing. AP Exams run all week long as does EOCT's. Check out the calendar link to see which test is given on each day. The following week consists of two normal days of school and then 3 exam days. Exam exemption forms are to be turned in to the front office to Mr. Reeve. On exam days, there are two semester exams given each day. After those two exams, the remainder of the day consists of two study sessions for the next day's exams. Any students that remain at school after exams must attend study sessions...they cannot wait in the commons, media center or outside of the school. Buses will pick up students at the normal time during exams (2:50pm).

Graduation practice will be held on Friday May 21 at 1pm. Seniors must be there on time! If you don't show up for practice, you don't participate in the graduation-no exceptions!

Good luck to all of our students during the final ten days of school....GO PANTHERS!

Getting Closer to the End

Now that Senior Week and the Prom is behind us, we will begin our end-of-the-year events such as Honors Night, a lot of testing, and spring sports playoffs.

Honors Night is this Thursday night (April 22) at 6:30pm. Students were sent personal invitations last week and should be at school in their seats by 6:15pm. After the ceremony, we will have a reception in the commons for all of our students and families in attendance. Students needing to get an Honor Chord should see Mrs. Sprouse.

Our last progress report goes home Tuesday with each student...parents, please help us prevent your child from catching too much spring fever...we have a lot of school left! Stay abreast of the grades as we wind down the last 25 days of the year.

AP exams and EOCT's will begin in the next few weeks. Our daily bell schedule will be modified during these days and Power Period will be finished for the year on April 30!

Congrats to our Georgia Math League Team for placing 7th in the state and being the top school in Columbia County. We beat Augusta Prep, Evans, Grovetown High . Check out our main page for a link to all of the state scores! Way to go, Mrs. Good and Math League students!

Our Poetry Night Reception for the Lakeside Review will be on Monday night April 19 at 7pm. Grade level winners and our overall Lakeside Poet Laureate will be named! The ceremony will be held in the media center...feel free to join us for the fun!

The highlights of this week are Wednesday's Senior Breakfast and Friday night's Prom. It'll be a busy but fun week!
Congrats to Ellen Schafer and Taylor Capers for being selected as the Swimmers of the Year by the Augusta Chronicle! There is an awesome article and photograph of both swimmers linked from our main web page...be sure to check it out.
Also, congrats to Coach Moe McCormack, our Lady Panther Basketball Coach, for being named Coach of the Year by the Augusta Chronicle! Way to go, Panthers!
Over the break, two of our teachers, David Owen and David Arrington, completed their Doctoral Degrees. We now have two more doctors in the house! Great job!

Rest Up For A Busy Return!

Whew! It seemed like spring break would never get here, but it finally did. We are out of school until Monday April 12. When we return it's Senior Week and the daily themes are listed on our home page. Wednesday morning we have our Senior Breakfast at 8am. Seniors must turn in their Graduation Contract in order to be able to attend the Breakfast. At the breakfast, Seniors will receive their graduation attire and invitations from Balfour....yes, graduation time is drawing near! Our Prom is that Friday night at Sacred Heart Cultural Center...see Mrs. Matthews in the media center if you have any questions. The following week will include Honors Night (April 22 at 6:30pm). Then we will begin our testing "festival" because of the hundreds of AP exams that will be administered along with EOCT's. We still have lots of school left, so be ready to hit the ground running when we get back!

The End is Near!

Well, we've made it to the last week of school before spring break! We finished our week of testing for the Graduation Tests and now we are winding things down before we get a week off for Masters. When we return, the busiest part of the year will be upon us. The first week back is Senior Week that includes the Senior Breakfast, Senior Field Day, and the Prom. Mrs. Sprouse is collecting registrations from students for AP Exams during the three lunch periods. The first AP exam is free, but any exam after that costs $86. Register before spring break so that you don't forget to do so later on. Our spring sports are in high gear, so come out and support our hard working Panthers!

One down, One to go!

Congrats to all of our seniors that presented their Senior Project Presentations tonight. Half of our senior class went tonight...the other half presents on Tuesday night. Our Panthers are most impressive as they elaborate and share their work from this past year. Thanks to all of our judges from the community...many of whom have been with us for several years and keep coming back! Nine more days until Spring Break!

Lakeside Panther Blog

I'm going to experiment with this blog to try and keep everyone current on what's happening at Lakeside. This is one busy place-especially this time of year!
The week we are doing our Graduation Testing for all 11th graders in the four content areas. We will give the Science Test on Monday (March 22) and the Math test on Tuesday (March 23). Students need to be in their testing rooms no later than 8am each day. Please rest up and do your best!

Monday and Tuesday nights (March 22 & 23)our Seniors will be delivering their Senior Project Presentations! This is the final stage of the project for the entire year. Good luck, Seniors!

Thursday night (March 25) Balfour will host "The Road to Graduation" between 5-8pm in our Commons Area for all students currently in 10th grade homerooms. We had a class meeting last week and each student left with an envelope full of helpful materials. Parents: please look over this info before coming Thursday night. Balfour reps will be in the media center this Friday during the three lunch periods to help anyone with a ring order that might not be able to attend Thursday night. Don't forget to place your order this week...there is only a $60 deposit required to place an order and you can make payments over time to pay for the ring. Don't miss out!
